From 10 Oct. 1825 newspapers with tax stamps travelled free by post; they were in many ways the first postage stamps. British Newspaper Tax Stamps were first introduced only a few weeks before the date of this paper, on 1st Aug. 1712; very few papers with clear examples of 1712 have survived. Fine Exhibition Item.
