Red oval handstamp on reverse of 1853-55 3¢ Nesbitt entire to New Orleans, struck by red oval forwarder's handstamp "Reshipped By, Watts Given & Co., Mammoth Wharfs, Paducah, Ky." across indicia and postmarked bold "Steam" straight line in black with red "New Orleans Jun. 23" cds at left, entire opened out for display, some hinge re-enforcement along fold, Very Fine and scarce.Milgram No. 1269; Estimate $300 - 400. This vessel was built 1854 running St. Louis-New Orleans for James Tucker, Master, prior to November, 1855 when it was sold to New Orleans and ran New Orleans-Vicksburg. It burned at Algiers, Louisiana April 10, 1856.

The "Shamrock" was built in 1848 and burned at Lake Bisteneau in 1851.

Mar 15" cds and matching "Steam 10" rating handstamp for over 300 miles, manuscript "Shamrock" endorsement, light horizontal fold, Very Fine and rare, this is the only recorded example, Unlisted in Milgram.Milgram No. 1271A; Estimate $300 - 400. The "Shamrock" of 139 tons built at Newport Ky. in 1848. Burned and lost in Lake Bistineau La. in June 1851.

Fancy arced stencil Steamboat marking on large size folded cover dateline "Steamer Modern near Vicksburg, 28 February 1847" to Lynchburg, Virginia, postmarked "New Orleans, La. Mar. 4" cds with matching straightline "Steam" handstamp and manuscript "30" rate paying the triple rate, endorsed "Via Richd, Va.", light overall aging, Extremely Fine, Illustrated in Milgram.Milgram No. 1299; Estimate $3,000 - 4,000.ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF THIS RARE STENCIL MARKING WITH ONLY FOUR RECORDED. The "Star Spangled Banner" operated between New Orleans and Cincinnati before tragically sinking on June 29, 1847, approximately 15 miles below Baton Rouge, resulting in the loss of 125 lives.
