Blue double circle handstamp on 3¢ postal entire to San Francisco, cancelled on arrival with "San Francisco May 17" cds & segmented grid, Very Fine and rare, Unlisted in Milgram.Milgram No. 1055B; Estimate $500 - 750.THIS MAY BE THE ONLY EXAMPLE OF THIS RARE CALIFORNIA STEAMBOAT MARKING. Isaiah W. Gillpatrick advertised that he would run a daily express service through the use of the Steamer "Parthenius". This express provided a service between San Francisco and the river ports of Vallejo, Benicia, Martinez, Black Diamond landing, Pittsburg Landing and Antioch. He also connected inland to the coal mining towns of Somersville, Nortonville and Clayton. He lasted from May 1871 to about July 1872. | ![]() | $500 |

"Portus B. Weare" was a wooden sternwheel steamship built in 1892 for service on the Yukon River. She played a notable role in the Klondike gold rush, being the second ship to bring news of the Klondike gold strike and an estimated $1 million in gold down the river in 1897. This set off the gold rush. The vessel carried freight and passengers up the Yukon to Dawson City and later Fairbanks.
