10861854 ½a BLUE DIE I INTERMEDIATE STONE: A most interesting reconstruction of the intermediate stone with unused (9, inc. two blocks of four, one being marginal with part inscription at top - initialled on reverse "AD" - Dienna), the used inc. a strip of four [18-21]. A most educational lot. Note: to ensure uniformity in design, following the failure of the previous design, Capt. Thuillier had a copper die engraved by Maniruddin and 24 single transfers were taken from the die to make an intermediate stone of 24 in three rows of eight. Four transfers were then taken of the intermediate stone to make the printing stone of 96 in 12 rows of 8.

One position with a scratch on the forehead below the eye. Also two used shades clearly showing the same variety showing that the flaw became constant.

Small marginal tears clear of designs and two with internal tear. Most attractive.

10911854 ½a BLUE DIE I "A" STONE SCARCE BLOCK OF TWELVE [1-4/9-12/17-20]: An unused upper left corner block of twelve with part corner inscription and ornament. Intermediate stone positions the same as the sheet positions. Position [I] with base of left arch strengthened and produced upwards to meet the ornament. The block is very slightly toned which almost enhances the appearance. A rare item. SG 2 £3,575.

11001854 ½a BLUE DIE I "A" STONE UNIQUE VARIETIES: A horizontal strip of three [93-95] with large margins, lightly cancelled by diamonds of dots, position 95 with "L" of "HALF" omitted. Also an unplated example with clear to good margins, similarly cancelled, with "HA" of "HALF" omitted. A remarkable pair of errors, both probably unique. Note: the exact cause of such errors is difficult to determine. While they could be freak inking flaws it is possible that the letters were deliberately erased, prior to retouching.
