1086 | 1854 ½a BLUE DIE I INTERMEDIATE STONE: A most interesting reconstruction of the intermediate stone with unused (9, inc. two blocks of four, one being marginal with part inscription at top - initialled on reverse "AD" - Dienna), the used inc. a strip of four [18-21]. A most educational lot. Note: to ensure uniformity in design, following the failure of the previous design, Capt. Thuillier had a copper die engraved by Maniruddin and 24 single transfers were taken from the die to make an intermediate stone of 24 in three rows of eight. Four transfers were then taken of the intermediate stone to make the printing stone of 96 in 12 rows of 8. | ![]() | $650 |

Also an unplated example with clear to good margins, similarly cancelled, with "HA" of "HALF" omitted. A remarkable pair of errors, both probably unique.
